Timberlook flush sash windows (Pebble Grey) with Mila Peardrop handles and Georgian astragal bars; uPVC French doors (Aluplast/Rehau profile, Pebble Grey exterior / White interior)
This is a beautiful detached family home, full of countryside charm. With its exposed timber beams framing the porch, warm red brickwork and pitched gables, the property carries a wonderful traditional character that defines so many homes across this corner of Essex.
Our brief was to modernise the glazing without losing a shred of that period appeal. Every window and door had to honour the home’s heritage feel while quietly delivering all the benefits of contemporary uPVC engineering.
Timberlook flush sash windows are engineered to replicate the look of 19th-century timber casements, but with all the performance of modern uPVC. The “flush” design means the opening sash sits perfectly level with the frame rather than sitting proud, creating slimmer sightlines and a cleaner finish.
They’ve become the gold standard for period properties, conservation areas and cottage-style homes, offering authentic character without the painting, sanding and rot that real timber demands.
We finished these windows with single horizontal astragal Georgian bars, sitting both internally and externally on the glass to create that authentic 3D pane effect without compromising thermal performance.
The Mila Peardrop handles in black add a heritage-inspired touch that suits the property perfectly. Beyond the aesthetics, the windows achieve A-rated energy efficiency, multi-point locking certified to PAS24 and Secured by Design, plus weather-tight seals that keep draughts firmly outside.
French doors trace their origins back to Renaissance France, where wide glazed openings were used to flood grand rooms with light and connect interiors to formal gardens. That sense of elegance and openness has never gone out of style.
For a detached property like this, with all its charm, French doors felt like the natural choice. They preserve the home’s classical proportions while creating a generous, symmetrical opening between the living space and the garden beyond.
French doors offer a wide, welcoming opening that floods interiors with natural light and fresh air. They suit period properties beautifully because their double-leaf design echoes traditional architecture.
Choosing uPVC adds another layer of practicality, the frames use multi-chambered construction for excellent thermal efficiency, can achieve A++ energy ratings and never need repainting. We also fitted anti-snap euro cylinders and multi-point hook locking for maximum security at this key entry point.
Timberlook flush sash windows are manufactured with UV-stable foiled finishes designed to resist fading from sun exposure.
With minimal upkeep, just an occasional wipe with warm soapy water, your Pebble Grey finish should remain rich and consistent for well over 20 years, far outlasting painted timber alternatives.
This Brentwood home now enjoys the best of both worlds. The exterior retains its period charm thanks to the flush sash detailing, Georgian bars and warm Pebble Grey tones that sit beautifully against the red brick.
Internally, the family will notice warmer rooms, lower heating bills and a quieter home thanks to 28mm sealed units with Argon gas filling. With our 10-year warranty in place, these products are built to perform for decades.
