uPVC windows are affordable due to their ability to be mass-produced, and also boast impressive thermal performance. Aluminium provides modern aesthetics, an increased natural light intake, and exceptional strength.
Casement windows are energy-efficient, secure, and simplistic. Available in aluminium or uPVC, they provide excellent insulation and are designed for maximum longevity. We also offer triple glazing with casement windows if you're looking for the highest standards of thermal efficiency.
When selecting new windows, consider material options like aluminium or high-quality uPVC for energy efficiency, security, and aesthetic appeal. Installation quality is key for longevity.
To reduce condensation, ensure your windows are sealed properly. High-quality uPVC and aluminium windows are designed to minimise moisture buildup and protect your home from draughts.
Yes, with our years of expertise, the AGS team can recommend sash windows, woodgrain effects, and other relevant products for conservation areas, ensuring compliance and quality upon completion.
Most modern windows can last between 20 and 40 years depending on the frame material, installation quality and maintenance. Signs that replacement may be needed include draughts, condensation between panes, difficulty opening or closing, and visible damage to the frames.
Triple glazing can improve thermal performance and reduce external noise compared to standard double glazing. Whether it is worthwhile depends on factors such as the property's location, energy efficiency goals and budget.
Acoustic glass is specially designed to reduce the amount of sound that passes through a window. It typically uses glass panes of different thicknesses and specialist interlayers to help minimise noise from traffic, railways and other external sources.
In most cases, replacing windows does not require planning permission. However, additional restrictions may apply to listed buildings, conservation areas and certain types of property, so it is always advisable to check local requirements.
Trickle vents are small ventilation openings that allow fresh air to enter a property even when the windows are closed. They help improve airflow and can assist with managing moisture and condensation within the home.
Common signs include draughts, condensation trapped between glass panes, difficulty operating the windows, increased outside noise and visible damage to the frame or seals.
Bifold doors open up your Essex home, allowing natural light and fresh air to flow in. They are available in aluminium, providing a stylish yet secure solution for your home.
Yes, we offer a range of uPVC back doors designed for security and energy efficiency. They are built to withstand the elements and keep your home secure. We also install aluminium doors that can be used in this context.
Our durable uPVC doors are built to last for years, offering great longevity with minimal maintenance. They are designed to resist weathering and maintain their appearance for decades. Generally speaking, you’re looking at around 25-30 years.
Yes, all our doors, including French doors and bifold doors, are designed to reduce heat loss, improve insulation, and help you save on energy bills by maintaining your home’s warmth. By retaining heat, you’ll be less dependent on costly appliances.
Absolutely! Whether you choose uPVC or aluminium, we offer a variety of styles and finishes to match your home’s design. uPVC materials are available with stunning woodgrain effects, with aluminium products able to be installed in any RAL colour.
It depends on your space. Bifold doors open up more of the doorway, while sliding patio doors give you larger panes of glass and need less opening space. The best choice depends on the size of the opening, the view, and how you use the room.
uPVC doors are low maintenance and practical. Aluminium doors are slim, strong and suited to larger glazed doors. Composite doors are often used for front and back doors because they offer a solid feel, good insulation and strong security.
In most cases, replacing external doors like-for-like does not need planning permission. You may need approval if your home is listed, in a conservation area, or if you are changing the size of the opening. Building Regulations may still apply.
A secure door depends on the frame, lock, hinges, glazing and installation. Multi-point locking, strong hardware and suitable safety glass can all help improve security.
Low-threshold doors can make access easier, especially for pushchairs, wheelchairs or anyone with reduced mobility. They need to be specified and fitted correctly to help manage draughts, rain and drainage.
Choosing a conservatory depends on your space and style preferences. We offer a variety of designs, from classic to modern, with Victorian and Edwardian styles especially popular.
Our conservatories are built using high-quality uPVC or aluminium frames, with both glass and tiled roof options available.
Yes, a conservatory adds value to your home by providing extra living space and natural light. It also improves energy efficiency with high-quality uPVC or aluminium frames.
Regular maintenance is recommended. The use of aluminium and uPVC means that you only need to wipe the frames occasionally to keep your extension looking pristine, with options for self-cleaning glass available.
Installation time varies depending on the size and style of your conservatory. On average, our installations are completed within a few weeks, ensuring minimal disruption.
Many conservatories do not need planning permission if they meet permitted development rules. You may need approval if your home is listed, in a conservation area, or if the conservatory exceeds size, height or location limits.
Some conservatories are exempt from Building Regulations, but only if they meet certain conditions. These can include size, thermal separation from the house, independent heating and correct glazing or electrical work.
Yes, but the roof, glazing, ventilation and insulation all matter. A well-specified conservatory can help reduce heat loss in winter and limit overheating in summer, making the space more practical throughout the year.
The best roof depends on how you want to use the room. Glass roofs bring in more natural light, while tiled roofs can give the space a more solid, insulated feel. Rooflights can also be added to balance light and comfort.
Yes, many older conservatories can have the roof replaced. This is often done to improve insulation, reduce glare or make the room feel more usable. The existing structure should be checked first to confirm it can support the new roof system.
Glazed roofing lets in natural light while providing excellent insulation. It’s a stylish addition to conservatories, orangeries, and extensions, offering energy efficiency and a pleasant atmosphere. Predominantly made from glass, you can enjoy plenty of sunsets and stargazing.
Glazed roofing helps maintain a comfortable temperature in your home by reducing heat loss, allowing warm air to stay in. It’s ideal for creating an energy-efficient living space that you can use regardless of the weather.
A tiled roof extension feels like a natural extension of your home. It offers great insulation, longevity, and the option to integrate rooflights, enhancing natural light and energy efficiency.
Yes, our glazed roofing products are designed to perform well in various climates, helping to regulate the temperature and keep your home comfortable year-round.
Yes, we offer retrofitting services to add glazed roofing to your existing conservatory or extension, improving insulation and light flow without compromising style.
A roof lantern is a raised glazed structure, often used on flat roof extensions and orangeries. A roof light sits flatter within the roof. Roof lanterns can add height and impact, while roof lights offer a simpler, lower-profile way to bring in natural light.
A glazed roof can overheat if the wrong glass is used. Solar control glass helps reflect heat from the sun while still allowing natural light into the room. Ventilation, roof size and room direction also affect comfort.
Yes, specialist glazing can help reduce glare compared with standard glass. This is useful in bright rooms, kitchens, home offices and south-facing spaces where too much direct sunlight can make the room uncomfortable.
Self-cleaning glass can reduce the amount of manual cleaning needed. It uses a coating that helps break down dirt and allows rainwater to wash it away. It still needs some maintenance, but it can be useful for hard-to-reach roof glazing.
Yes, many glazed roofing systems can be made to suit different roof sizes, layouts and property styles. The structure, pitch, drainage and glazing specification all need to be checked before the final design is agreed.
An orangery is a stylish extension with large windows and a lantern roof, offering plenty of natural light. It blends the features of a conservatory with a more solid structure.
Unlike a conservatory, an orangery has a more substantial roof and often includes brickwork. This gives it a traditional feel while still offering excellent light and views.
Yes, our orangeries are designed to be highly energy-efficient, incorporating advanced insulation and high-quality uPVC or aluminium to help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
Absolutely! Whether you want traditional or contemporary finishes, we offer a variety of designs, materials, and features to make your orangery truly unique.
Orangeries increase a home's value by adding extra space, natural light, and a stylish aesthetic. They blend indoor and outdoor living, offering a versatile, high-quality extension.

An orangery typically features more brickwork and a solid roof perimeter with a glazed roof lantern, whereas a conservatory generally has a higher proportion of glass in both the walls and roof. This often gives an orangery a more substantial, extension-like appearance.
Many orangeries fall within permitted development rights, meaning planning permission may not be required. However, this depends on factors such as the size, height and location of the structure, as well as whether the property is listed or located within a conservation area.
A well-designed orangery can be used throughout the year. Modern glazing, insulation and heating solutions help maintain comfortable temperatures during both summer and winter months.
An orangery can increase the amount of usable living space within a property, making it more functional and appealing to potential buyers. While the impact on property value will vary depending on factors such as location, design and build quality, additional living space is often considered a desirable feature.
A roof lantern is a glazed structure installed on a flat or partially flat roof. It is commonly used in orangeries to bring natural light into the space from above while maintaining a more solid roof construction around the perimeter. Roof lanterns can help create a brighter, more open feel and are often a key design feature of modern orangeries.

Great service from Start to finish.
After looking around for a while I made the great decision and chose AGS.
From the start Tyler was very professional and helpful on the phone, he sent me pictures by email of doors in the colours I was thinking about and also pictures of the fixtures and fittings so I could compare colours.
Tyler was very communicative throughout the whole process. On the day of installation the fitter was punctual and polite and clearly knew his stuff, door is working a dream. Especially happy with the making good and how he installed the trim, such a clean and tidy finish.
